Frequently Asked Questions

Are your volunteer worker’s trained and screened?

Yes, we hold at least 2 training events per year in order to assure that our volunteer workers are familiar with our policies and procedures. If you would like a copy of our policies and procedures, please call our Church Administrator for a copy. All Sunday School workers are required to complete a national background check and be members of FBC Keller before volunteering with children.

Are the toys in the classrooms age-appropriate?

Yes, the classrooms that we use on Sunday mornings are also used by our state-licensed weekday program (Kids In Discovery School). Toys are disinfected after each session and all classrooms have been child-proofed.

Can anyone pick up my child?

Absolutely not. A receipt will be given to the adult who brings the child to our preschool area. Someone at least 7th grade or older must possess this receipt to pick up a child.

What if my baby/child needs me?

We have a pager system available and encourage parents to take one. Our regularly staffed greeter will attempt to locate you after 10 minutes should we not be able to soothe your child. If we page you, that is your signal to come to the preschool reception desk.  All parents should note their worship hour and/or Sunday School department number on the sign-in sheets at your child's room.

I’m concerned about food allergies, what can I expect my baby/child to be offered?
When initially signing in your baby/child, you will have the opportunity to make us aware of any allergies. Otherwise, the general rule is bed babies will only be given a bottle if provided by the parent; 2’s through kindergarteners will be offered water and graham crackers. On occasion the curriculum will involve simple foods like fruits or bread.  The teachers will post a notice on such occasions to inform parents of the particular food being used.

Are there specific activities that my child will participate in on Sunday mornings?

Yes, we are using the Lifeway curriculum for toddlers through kindergarten which introduces basic Christian principles in a fun age-appropriate environment.  Please follow the links in the left navigation bar for information on the curriculum we follow and how you can integrate these same teachings at home.

When is it best to keep my child at home?
If your child has the following symptoms:

Fever over 99 in the past 24 hours
Vomiting or diarrhea in the past 24 hours
Common-cold symptoms such as thick colored mucus, coughing, congestion
Unexplained or contagious rashes (pox, mumps, measles, ringworm, etc.)
Head lice
Croup
Eye infections

Parents may be asked to remove their children from the group if these symptoms are observed.

Family Dedications:

We encourage parents to commit themselves before our church family through a formal Family Dedication.  The church family will commit alongside parents to help and encourage them in raising godly children.  New in '09, parents wishing to schedule a Family Dedication must attend our Deuteronomy 6 Academy prior to the dedication.  Family Dedications are scheduled at least one week in advance. Please contact Jim Dempsey, the Director of Preschool Ministries, to schedule a dedication or to sign up for the Deuteronomy 6 Academy.
