A Psalm of Confession and Repentance

Psalms of Penitence

Penitence means “expressing repentance.” The Psalter contains seven psalms of penitence. They are Psalm 6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, and 143. They fall into the larger category of psalms of lament (like we studied last week in Psalm 42 and 43). They tend to possess a consistent structure and framework with the psalms of lament. They begin with a general cry for help, healing, or mercy.
